ABOUT THE OWNER AND PRESIDENT


J. Charles (Chuck) Downey








Education:

  B. S. in Mechanical Engineering – Purdue University
       (Co-operative Education with G. M.)
  M. S. in Industrial/Systems Engineering – University of Florida
       (General Motors Fellowship)

Work Experience:
-  Career in Engineering Management with General Motors.
-  Vice President of Technical Services for a company with 450 employees that was supplier
of technical and testing services, and technical personnel to G.M. and Tier One suppliers.
-  Owner and operator (with my wife) of a retail company operating on Main Street in   
Frankenmuth,  MI for nineteen years. Business was sold in 1999.
-  Worked with Northwestern Michigan College’s MTEC (Michigan Technical Education Center)
as a corporate trainer on manufacturing business development and Lean training topics. -- Taught training courses to more than 25 companies in Northern Michigan and elsewhere in
the United States.   
-  Recently completed work with PTAC (Procurement Technical Assistance Center) advising
and assisting with government contracting more than 150 manufacturers and other
companies in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
-  Taught, as an Adjunct Faculty member of Baker College, a course in “Small Business
Management” to dual enrollment senior students at Kingsley Senior High School.

Volunteer Activities:
-  Member of the Board of Governors of the National Cherry Festival (Non-Profit) (4 years)
-  Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grand Traverse Industries (Non-Profit) (3 years)
-  Member of the Board of Directors of Michigan Blood, based in Grand Rapids (2 years)
-  Member of the Board of Directors of The Economic Club of Traverse City(Non-Profit)
-  Member of Rotary Club of Traverse City, and active on several committees, including
“Good Works” Committee (Chairman), Membership Committee, and Board of
  Directors, Rotary Camps & Services.
-  Active as a volunteer in SCORE ( 10 years), where I have developed seminars on a
  variety of business issues, primarily involving business start-up, strategic planning,
  business plans and growth strategies.
-  Served as Vice Chair of the PDR (Purchase of Development Rights) Selection
  Committee for Peninsula Township, Michigan.
-  Member of National Ski Patrol for 33 years.
-  Past President of the Bavarian Festival in Frankenmuth.



Personal:
-  Married to Melinda. We have two children and six grandchildren living downstate in Michigan.
